Mahle controlled coolant pumps

In contrast to oil pumps, coolant pumps operate on the turbo machine principle. In these pumps, liquid is set in motion by an impeller—a vane contained in an enclosure. The efficiency of the pump is determined to a large extent by the design of the impeller blades. Conventional coolant pumps from MAHLE excel due to the use of optimized impellers, which offer a considerably greater overall efficiency advantage compared to traditional impellers.

Controlled pumps will also be used to convey coolant. Because of the controlled operation and minimal mechanical wear of this type of MAHLE coolant pump, the coolant circuit is also a contributing factor to reduced CO2 emissions in the driving cycle. Whether the pump is controlled mechanically/hydraulically from the engine to the pump or driven electrically and independently of the engine can be determined on a case-by-case basis.
